  • Notes
    • Biography: Sarah Allen or Allyn was born 1 May 1692 in Deerfield, Franklin, Massachusetts, United States of America. She was the daughter of Mercy Painter and Edward Allen, second generation New Englanders who had been in North America for at least 70 years. She was captured at the Battle of Deerfield by Mohawk and forced to walk to Quebec, Canada where she is sold into slavery in the household of Jean Quenet a wealthy land owner. She remained in Canada and converted to Catholicism in 1705, taking the name Marie Madeleine Sire (Sara or Sarah) Helene.
In 1707 her father, Edward Allen attended a mission to attempt to recover more of the captives from Deerfield, it was the third effort of it's kind, lead by Ensign John Sheldon and accompanied by Deacon Edmund Rice. There is no proof that Edward met with Sarah during this time, we only know that Sarah did not return to Massachusetts with her family and instead remained in Canada.
In 1710 she married Guillaume Lalonde dit L'Esperance and they have 13 children together, 9 boys and 4 girls. Interesting to note is that the couple's first son was named Edouard Lalonde.
