    • Jean De La Londe dit Lesperance had three prior marriage contracts which were annulled before his successful union with Marie Barbary in 1669. From what we know of the 'Fille du Roi' program, marriage was the ultimate goal of all the women involved, but both women and men had the right to refuse a union at any time during their initial contract. Because Jean had a home and is assumed to have been a member of the Carignan-Salieres Regiment he was considered to be a good match for a prospective mate. His other contracts were as follows:

In 1667 Jean entered into engagement with Francoise Hermel. Her dowry was an estimated value of 300 pounds. Francois later married Jean Baptiste Saint-Amour.

On 27 Sep 1669 Jean entered into a second contract, the woman's name was Marie Poire. Her dowry was an estimated value of 950 pounds, as well as 50 livers. Marie later married Jean Francois Hardy.

On 13 Oct 1669 Jean enters into a third contract with Pierrette Vaillant, also a Fille du Roi. Her dowry was an estimated value of 250 pounds, as well as 50 livers. Pierrette does not appear in records after 1669, and possibly perished, or returned to France.

Jean's successful contract with Marie Barbary was made 14 Nov 1669. Her dowry was an estimated 200 pounds.
