    • Biography:
      One of five sons of Andrew Bratton who came to America. The fifth son died on the voyage.
      He arrived in Augusta County, Virginia in 1733, which was then referred to as Orange County. He married widow Ann McFarland Dunlap and the pair had at least six children.
      He served as Captain of the French and Indian War (1756-1758). He also served as a member of the Council of War for protection of the Virginian Frontier in 1756. He was still serving as Captain of the Militia in 1783 at 70 years of age.
      Owner of 2,284 acres of Augusta County, Virginia and other lands in the Western Territories.
